This is a photo illustration made with ADOBE Lightroom and Photoshop. The water, poles, and bicycle are one shot. then using Lightroom I darkened the shot and sent it over to Photoshop where I replaced the sky with a night scene and moon. Then I used the colors in the moon to paint the reflection in the water.
I have no concerns about altering shots in post-production. Sometimes on purpose and sometimes to innovate. When I started in photography we learned all kinds of film and darkroom techniques to produce the photograph that we previsualized or crafted using those techniques. For me, digital darkroom tools are no different - as long as the photographer is transparent about how the shot was created.
